Thinking About Weight Loss Jabs? What Women Over 40 Need to Know First

April 15, 20264 min read

There’s a quiet shift happening in women’s health right now.

More and more women are considering GLP-1 weight loss injections. And in many ways, it makes sense.

When you’ve spent years trying to do everything “right” — eating well, exercising, cutting calories, starting again on Monday — it’s exhausting to feel like your body just isn’t responding anymore.

So when something comes along that promises to finally work… of course it gets attention.

And to be clear, these medications absolutely have a place.

For individuals managing conditions like type 2 diabetes, morbid obesity, or metabolic syndrome, they can be incredibly valuable. Even in the context of weight management, they can offer support when used appropriately.

But there’s an important part of the conversation that’s often missing.

And it's not because anyone is trying to mislead you, it’s simply not being talked about enough.

These medications don’t create a new system in your body.

They work through one that already exists.

GLP-1 is a hormone your body naturally produces.

It plays a role in:

  • regulating appetite

  • slowing digestion

  • supporting blood sugar balance

And a significant part of that signalling begins in the gut.

Which means when we use an injection to mimic that signal, we’re not introducing something completely foreign.

We’re amplifying a pathway your body already relies on.

So the more useful question isn’t “Do these work?”

It’s:

Why might my body need that level of support in the first place?

For many women, the answer isn’t a lack of discipline or a shortage of willpower.

It’s years of accumulated stress on the body.

  • inconsistent or restrictive eating patterns

  • chronic stress and poor sleep

  • digestive issues that have been dismissed or normalised

  • hormonal changes through perimenopause and menopause

Over time, these factors don’t just affect how you feel day to day.

They influence how your body regulates hunger, energy, and weight.

Signals become less reliable. Feedback loops get disrupted.

And what used to work… stops working.

This is where the conversation around weight loss jabs can become oversimplified.

Because they can help reduce appetite.

They can help create a calorie deficit.

But they don’t automatically:

  • improve your relationship with food

  • restore metabolic flexibility

  • support gut health

  • reduce stress or improve sleep

So without those foundations in place, many women find themselves relying on the medication to manage something their body hasn’t been supported to regulate on its own.

This isn’t about judgement. It’s about understanding.

There is no gold star for doing this the “hard way.”

And there is no shame in seeking support.

But there is a difference between:

👉 using a tool as part of a long-term strategy
and
👉 using a tool as a substitute for one

In my own experience, this distinction matters.

I spent years as a chronic dieter.

I understand what it feels like to be uncomfortable in your own body, to question your willpower, to wonder why nothing seems to work.

It wasn’t until I worked with a coach and started focusing on sustainable lifestyle changes - gradually, consistently, without shame - that things began to shift.

Not just in terms of weight, but in energy, confidence, and clarity.

It took some time and patience, but along the way I learned so much about myself and my body; supplements and medications could never have taught me those things.

Even now, managing Hashimoto’s and navigating hormonal changes, those foundational habits are what make everything else work. Because let's face it, even though I'm an experienced coach, I'm also a human being, with the same ups and downs that life brings to everyone. I don't have a perfect body, nor do I strive for one. What I do have is a love of my body and a healthy lifestyle that's worth living in.

Especially for women over 40, this matters more — not less.

With the natural decline in oestrogen, we face increased risks around:

  • bone health

  • metabolic health

  • cardiovascular health

Which means the goal isn’t just weight loss.

It’s long-term health, strength, and resilience.

So where does that leave you if you’re considering weight loss jabs?

You have options.

You can:

  • use them on their own

  • focus on supporting your body first

  • or combine both approaches with the right guidance

But whichever path you choose, the most important thing is this:

Your body still needs the foundations.

Because that’s what determines whether your results are temporary… or sustainable.

If you take one thing from this blog, let it be this:

Your body is responding to the conditions it’s been given.

Change the conditions — and you change the outcome.

And that’s a far more powerful place to start.

Before you make a decision about weight loss jabs, it’s worth understanding what’s actually going on in your body.

We’re running a live workshop where we break this down simply and clearly — so you can see what’s driving your symptoms, what these injections do (and don’t do), and what your best next step looks like.

It’s not about being for or against them.

It’s about making the right decision for you, with the full picture in front of you.
